TOUR GRADING
Edelweiss tours offer a
great variety of riding challenges and riding time per day. Some tours
are easy to manage, even for inexperienced riders. Others demand strong
riding skills and endurance every day. In order to assist you in your
selection of the best destination and tour, we have rated every single
tour.
This
is important for you and your passenger. Some tour members want to ride
all day, others want to stop more frequently, meet the locals and see
the sights and relax before dinner in the evening! The riding hours
indicated with every tour description include time for coffee stops and
photo stops, but do not include time for picnics/lunches. Normally you
will start riding at 9:00 am in the morning, with a lunch break for
about one hour somewhere between 12:00 noon and 2:00 pm. So if riding
day hours are indicated as 6-8 you will be arriving at the hotel
between 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm. Many tour days give the option to ride
route 1 (shorter) or route 2 (more riding). So pick the right tour for
yourself and, if applicable, your passenger!

Route Grading
One of the most important features of any Edelweiss Tour is the right
route. We take time to choose and test ride route 1 and route 2. For
experienced motorcyclists the smaller roads with less traffic and lots
of turns are close to paradise. This route may be too demanding to
handle for beginners or intermediates. Edelweiss tours cover the world.
Riding conditions, traffic flow, local driving habits, roads, no roads
vary a lot on this planet. All of these factors go into our ROUTE
GRADING. If you have never been on tour outside your home country and
you have no experience riding extremely curvy mountain roads, stay with
the EASY or INTERMEDIATE tours. If in doubt send us an e-mail or call!
EASY
The whole route is on asphalt. The road will at times be curvy but
mostly easy to handle. Riding hours can be cut short by taking route 1.
Even on our EASY TOURS you must be able to ride your motorcycle. Do not
expect to learn to ride on the tour.
INTERMEDIATE
Asphalt routes. There can be sections of very narrow winding roads. In
the mountains tight switchbacks. Traffic sometimes intense and not as
you may be used to. Experience is required!
TOUGH
In general asphalt routes. There may be constructions sections
requiring riding on gravel for some distance. Some quite long riding
days. Very intense and unusual traffic at times. You must be a very
experienced rider for our TOUGH TOURS!
OFF ROAD EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
Our Adventure Tours are running on asphalt and on some dirt roads. The
dirt riding is limited and mostly on graded roads of good quality.
