Do management and staff go on the company's trips?
During the past years, Edelweiss Bike Travel management and staff have
gone on many trips as guests. After each trip, staff participants
prepare a detailed report with recommendations for improvements, many
of which are subsequently implemented.
Do the guests have to follow the tour guide?
It is up to each client either to follow the tour guide, who takes a
maximum of 10 motorcycles with him, or to make his own way together
with a friend or two.
Do the guests need to bring their own motorcycle?
All our trips include a rental motorcycle which is ready at the tour
base. The motorcycles are adequate for the recommended route. If guests
want to bring their own motorcycle it is possible too and the tour
price will be lower. Prices are contained in the special price list
without rental motorcycle.
Do the guests need to transport their luggage on the motorcycle?
On every Edelweiss Tour there is a support van (except Touring Centers)
which transports the luggage. Most motorcycles have luggage cases for
small items such as rain gear and photo/ video equipment.
Does every trip include a leader with experience on the route?
At least one Edelweiss leader has led the trip before or scouted the route several times.
Does the company run its own trips?
Edelweiss Bike Travel does run its own trips with the exception of
China and North America where we have franchise agreements. Our tours
in these areas are operated through the local franchisees but do have
the same level of quality and are operated under the same structure as
our other tours.
How does the company determine the group size of each trip?
Edelweiss Bike Travel carefully evaluates each destination and
determines optimal group size based on a variety of factors, including
complexity of logistics and number of rooms at selected hotels and
motorcycle capacity.
How does the company research its trips?
After months of office research, Edelweiss Bike Travel conducts
scouting tours before launching a new trip itinerary. Many people may
be involved at various stages during the time it takes to fully
research a new destination.
How long are most leaders and staff with the company?
The majority of Edelweiss Tour guides and staff have been with the company for at least three years.
How long has the company been in business?
Edelweiss Bike Travel has started in 1981 and continues to be closely managed by the founder.
How many tour guides are assigned to each tour?
On a regular tour there will be two tour guides, except on Touring
Centers: One in the support vehicle and one on a motorcycle.
Is there a minimum/maximum age on the tours?
Yes, min./max. age is depending on the destination clients are choosing
and is contained in the brochure. Edelweiss Bike Travel Passengers
should be not less than 12 years of age. Riders over the age of 65 will
require a doctor’s certificate to confirm that they are fit for riding
the tour.
What about the daily riding distances?
Daily riding distances vary from 80 - 350 miles. On most riding days
the customer has a choice of 2 different routes. A more detailed
description of the riding distances is included in the EBT-brochure
under "AT A GLANCE". One route is covering less mileage and leaves more
time for sightseeing. The other route is designed for people who love
to ride a motorcycle and to cover more miles.
What is the company's - commitment to service?
At Edelweiss Bike Travel, providing great service is a given, but it is
"legendary" service that we strive for. We train employees on a regular
basis to achieve exemplary performance in the care of our guests. Only
when the expectations of the guests are exceeded, the tour is
considered a success by EBT.
What kind of information prior to tour start is provided through Edelweiss?
Each customer is provided with a detailed tour booklet which contains
all necessary information regarding the trip (information about the
country, what to bring, itinerary, maps ...).
What materials do leaders have to ensure consistently high quality?
In addition to our in-depth leader manual, each tour guide has a guide
book that meticulously details the logistics involved in running that
trip.
What percentage of guests do travel with Edelweiss more than once?
Over 60 percent of the guests travelling with Edelweiss Bike Travel
this past year were guests on previous Edelweiss tours or came because
of a personal recommendation.
What quality does the company provide, and does it suit your style of travel?
Edelweiss Bike Travel always seeks high quality lodging and cuisine
that reflects the character of the area in which we travel. Over the
years, we have cultivated relationships with fine hotels and
restaurants throughout the world.
What types of tours does Edelweiss Bike Travel offer?
Edelweiss Bike Travel offers guided motorcycle tours. The majority of
the tours run to 100 percent on road. Only the tours in our adventure
section will run partly off-road (10-15 percent).
When is a tour cancelled?
This depends on the specific tour. When there are less than 6 customers
booked on our standard European tours 30 days prior to tour departure,
EBT may cancel the tour. In this case, EBT may first offer all booked
customers to run the tour at a surcharge, depending on the response of
customers the tour may be operated or cancelled.
